It is with great pride and enthusiasm that the Kiwanis Club of Oceanside, in conjunction with Oceanside Education Foundation, announces the
Second Annual Summer Gazebo Readings Series.
The Summer Gazebo Readings will be held each Monday evening in June, July and August, and will feature 4 readers each evening. Readings start at 7 p.m.
Last year hundreds of people came down to Schoolhouse Green in Oceanside to enjoy readings by some of Long Island's most prestigious poets, published authors, comedians, fiction and non-fiction writers, as well as local community members sharing some of their favorite literature. The Summer Gazebo Readings are held outdoors; audience members bring lawn chairs and blankets and share a quiet summer's picnic on the grounds. Our audience is made up primarily of non-writers/poets-- simply local people enjoying a nice summer evening.
DIRECTIONS TO SCHOOLHOUSE GREEN
FROM NEW YORK CITY
BY CAR:
Take the Queens-Midtown Tunnel at 34th Street
to the Long Island Expressway (495);
Expressway to the Cross Island Parkway south;
Cross Island to the Southern State Parkway, eastbound;
Take the Southern State to exit 17 south, (Hempstead Ave.);
Hempstead Avenue becomes Ocean Avenue;
Continue south on Ocean Avenue until Merrick Road;
Make a left on Merrick Road;
Make a right on Long Beach Road (there is a diner on the far corner, an Able Ford dealership on your left).
Take Long Beach Road down to Foxhurst Road (there will be Towers Funeral Home and a Commerce Bank at the corner)
Make a left onto Foxhurst Road– Schoolhouse Green will be on your right.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
Regularly scheduled trains leave Pennsylvania Station. Take the Babylon line to Rockville Centre. Information and tickets are available at Pennsylvania Station at the Long Island Rail Road booth.
FROM ALL POINTS EAST BY CAR:
Take Southern State Parkway westbound to Meadowbrook Parkway south.
Exit at NY 27 (Sunrise Highway) heading West.
Take Sunrise Highway to Long Beach Road (2 lights after a Lexus dealer, the next block after the Hess gas station)
Make a left onto Long Beach Road.
Take Long Beach Road down to Foxhurst Road (there will be Towers Funeral Home and a Commerce Bank at the corner)
Make a left onto Foxhurst Road– Schoolhouse Green will be on your right.

The Summer Gazebo Readings will be held outdoors; seating is limited, so bring a lawn chair, a blanket, a picnic table. The grounds are open, and the public is encouraged to come early and have a quiet summer's picnic on the grounds. Admission is free.
